After spending a month traveling all over Thailand, I discovered great secrets for packing my suitcase. These tips apply if you are using a backpack instead of a suitcase.

Secret #1: LESS IS MORE!!! I packed 2 of everything: 2 tanks, 2 tees, 2 long sleeved shirts, 2 pairs of shorts, 2 pairs of leggings/pants, 2 pairs of shoes, and 2 bathing suits. You’re gonna be able to (and want to) buy a whole new wardrobe while you are there. As a fashionista, let me be the first to tell you that there are LOADS of super cute items that are super cheap. You will look stunning in their clothes (and be way more comfortable in the heat as well)!

Secret #2: PACK 14 PAIRS OF UNDERWEAR! For all you minimalists out there, I can understand how this may seem excessive, but ladies– let’s have some real talk. You want to keep your “hoo ha” clean and fresh, am I right? Our little thongs and briefs take up no room at all (especially if you fold them nicely), so why not bring more? I found that I sometimes changed my underwear several times a day (one in the morning, one after swimming in the ocean, and maybe one more time at night if I sweat a lot dancing in the bars). It is HOT and HUMID in Thailand and SEA, which is a breeding ground for yeast to grow. Bring cotton undies. Keep it fresh and clean. My 14 pairs of underwear took less room than one of my tees rolled up. It’s worth it, I promise!

Secret #3: USE ZIPLOCK BAGS TO ORGANIZE YOUR CLOTHES!!! This was a tip from my mom, and I am so thankful that I did it. First off, it makes all your clothes easier to find in the morning when you are searching for the perfect outfit to wear. Pack all your tees and tanks in one bag, your shorts in another, underwear in one, bathing suits in another, etc. Secondly, it actually helps you save space in your luggage. This equals more room for all y our exciting purchases! Lastly, and most importantly, IT WILL KEEP ALL YOUR CLOTHES DRY. It does rain, and when you are traveling, your bags will inevitably get wet. I had to walk through the pouring rain with my bags for 20 minutes trying to find my hostel at Koh Phangan. I was so pissed because I knew that all my stuff in my suitcase was going to be soaked. To my utter surprise, all my things were completely dry!! Thank the heavens for my ziplock bags!!! I pulled out dry clothes and was able to fall asleep immediately. My travel partner was not so lucky. All her stuff was soaked. USE ZIPLOCK BAGS. They are cheaper and more efficient than those fancy ones you buy at the store!

Much Love,
Alicia
